Back story
Not long after she was born in Canterlot, her parents abandoned her, and she was forgotten by everyone, all she ever wanted was to get noticed by her parents, who just threw her away and left her in Canterlot and she also wanted friends, but instead she ended up alone living inside Canterlot library were she studied magic, history and science, she started becoming very knowledgeable and very talented untill the day she started at the school for gifted unicorns, which she passed with eas. But during her school years she was depressed and very lonely, until one day this mare trotted up to her and started talking and checking on her every day, luckily this one mare was there for her when no one else was, Windy got really attached to her and was very appreciatetive, they quickly became best friends and would see each other every single day during their school years. Without her things might have gone differently.
She then went to try to discover what her special talent was, it wasn't until she discovered she can conjure orbs, which can do many different things she gained her cutiemark, soon after she went to live in the Everfree Forest for years while she was there she kept studying all kinds of things, nature, different spells, more science, and more possibilities with her orbs.
Eventually she started missing her house in Canterlot and her one friend, so she decided it was time to move back home and to at least try to repay her friend for everything she did for her, to show how grateful she was for what happened during her school years. She had learned so much which she was only going to use for good and help out anyone in need. She rarely ever went back to the forest afterwards, since she preferred to live closer to other ponies so she could always be there if someone needed her help. She would visit the forest every once in a while, maybe like 2-3 times a week or so.
She is a bit shy and prefer being alone, possibly because of her fillyhood, which is why she also don't really leave the house too often and also rarely get company over, but she also wants to make some friends which is a reason why she stays in Canterlot. Another reason is because her best friend lives there as well and Windy is forever grateful for what she did for her and really wants to repay her somehow. She is also a bit curious to who her parents are because she can't remember what they look like, due to the fact that they abandoned her when she was just a little filly.
